Houston Calligraphy Guild 1.5

The Houston Calligraphy Guild was established in 1979 as a non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization with the primary mission of promoting calligraphy as an art form. Celebrating its 45th year, the guild remains a member-driven entity, with several founding members continuing to participate actively. The organization fosters an inclusive environment, encouraging members of all skill levels to engage in committee work, educational programs, community outreach efforts, or to support fellow members.

Throughout the academic year from September to May, the guild offers an optional early bird class followed by its main meeting program. Complementing these sessions are various mini-workshops and calligraphy clinics held after the main events. During the summer months of June, July, and August, the guild conducts intensive workshops focused on specific calligraphic scripts or related techniques. Additionally, members have access to a comprehensive library of approximately 700 calligraphy books for personal study and research.

The guild hosts a range of weekend workshops and classes throughout the year, featuring visiting artists and master calligraphers. Every two years, the organization organizes a weekend retreat offering diverse classes aimed at enhancing members' skills and knowledge.

Active engagement within the Houston community is a cornerstone of the guild’s activities. Members participate in demonstrations and educational outreach at schools, libraries, museums, the Craft Center, and various citywide events. The organization also extends its support to active-duty military personnel and first responders through the provision of handwritten cards and gifts.
